Maturun Schmelkin focuses his practice on employment and benefits matters for hedge funds, private equity firms, asset managers, and investment banks. With nearly 30 years of experience in employment law, he represents clients in all aspects of their business, including recruiting, hiring, employment contracts, compensation, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations. He also has extensive experience advising on litigation strategy, coordinating the implementation of policies and programs in several international jurisdictions, and leading corporate training programs. He has extensive experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and programs, particularly in connection with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting. Marty also advises financial services companies in FINRA arbitrations and employment-related regulatory filings.
Marty brings a unique perspective to his clients, drawing on 15 years of experience in the Goldman Sachs Legal Department, where he was a Managing Director and Associate General Counsel in the Employment Law Department. He also worked in the Hong Kong office, where he covered employment law matters throughout Asia, and was also responsible for employment law in the non-U.S. offices in the Americas.
Marty is an Associate Lecturer in Labor and Employment Law at Columbia University and is a member of the Executive Council of the Cornell University School of Industrial & Labor Relations (ILR) Alumni Association.
